M'Liss has had a life long love affair with textiles and sewing. She began her career at the age of 4 embroidering napkins under the guidance of her mother. At the age of 9, her father fibbed about her age and signed her up for quilting lessons at the local fabric shop. In college, she majored in Textile Arts at the University of Washington and did graduate work in Clothing Design and Construction at Central Washington University.

M'Liss is a well known internationally as a leader in the field of quilting. Over the past 25 years, she has conducted hundreds of workshops and seminars, teaching art, textile design and quilting. Her work is regularly featured in national publications such as McCall’s Quilting and Quilt Magazine. M’Liss is also the author 12 bestselling books, and numerous embroidery card and fabric collections lines.


In 2006, M'Liss partnered with Jo-Ann Fabrics
and Craft Stores to redesign their entire Quilting Education Program in all of their stores nationwide. The result was the very popular Experience Quilting with M'Liss classroom series.

Beginning in 2007, Jo-Ann Fabrics and Craft Stores featured M'Liss's exclusive quilting fabric collections in over 800 stores nationwide with new collections released every other month.

M’Liss lives on a small filbert tree farm on Whidbey Island, Washington with her family, five dachshunds, four cats and an assortment of drop-ins. Her husband, Michael, is the retired Sheriff of Island County, Washington and writes murder mysteries in his spare time. They have two children: Alexander, a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps currently serving his second tour in Iraq and Adrienne, a recent college graduate from Seattle University and is working as a firefighter.
